The Hard Truth

Now that the school year has come to a close, I've had more time to read things that aren't being assigned to me. Recently, I picked up where I left off on a book I had begun reading last summer, "Radical" by David Platt. Today I came across something that many of us don't want to hear but it is something that we need to remember including myself.

In one of the chapters Platt goes over these 7 truths that scripture teaches us about those who have never heard of Jesus. This is a hard thing for many of us to think about because as he mentions we often like to defend the person in the jungle who has never heard the Gospel and say that he gets an automatic ticket to Heaven. However, we are wrong when we say this because as Platt talks about in Romans 1:18-19 it states that God has made himself known to all in some way or another. The second point that Platt brings up is that all have rejected God. There is proof of this found in Romans 1:21. The third point that Platt brings up is that all people are guilty before God. Platt backs up this point of us quoting Romans 3:11-12.

If you took a moment to look at these verses, you probably are feeling a little bit uncomfortable. We don't like to think of our sinful nature or God's wrath but we have to in order to appreciate the Gospel more and see the need for it. Platt makes the following statement: "There are no innocent people in the world just waiting to hear the gospel. Instead there are people all over the world standing guilty before a holy God, and that is the very reason they need the gospel" (147)

You still might find yourself saying, "What about the "innocent" people in the middle of nowhere who have no way of knowing?" But if you look above there aren't any innocent people. God has made Himself known to all, all are fallen and all have rejected God. It's hard to hear and even I don't understand it all but it's the truth. We need to be going and sharing the gospel to others and we need to see the reality of what's at stake here. Let that statement that Platt makes above sink in today and be reminded of what our purpose here is.
