You're Not Alone

Maybe you're reading this right now and you might be frustrated because you feel overwhelmed by something and know that you cannot handle it. You could be hurting right now and just feel so alone. You find that you are trying to do all these things but realizing you can't get it all done. Or maybe you're frustrated at your own struggle with something that you feel like you have been fighting through forever.

But whatever you may be going through right now, never forget this. You are not alone. You might be tired of hearing that because you might have heard it about a billion times and you roll your eyes at people and say "yeah yeah I know" but the thing is and I'm realizing too is that we need to daily hear that we are not alone and daily hear that we cannot overcome anything, get through anything or face anything on our own.

Only through Christ can we overcome bitterness. Only through Christ can we find peace. Only through Christ can we fight the temptation or struggle that we are exhausted from battling. Don't give up, there is hope and He is holding you. You have to admit you can't do it on your own though.

We are too broken, fallen and human to overcome these things by our own strengths. We are going to struggle and wrestle through things. We are going to hold grudges, we are going to be rude, we are going to have selfish hearts. But we have to daily fight it with Christ's strength and realize that God is always with us and always working and that we always need Him NO matter how close to Him we may be feeling or how much we may feel like we have it all together-we need Him just as much in those moments as we do when we feel like we've hit rock bottom.

Something else that God has given us to help us in addition to Himself are fellow believers. But fellow believers should NOT take God's place to help us and give us strength. They are to be supporters and encouragers in our lives.God has placed people in your life and mine to support us through what we are going through-don't fight it on your own. We are meant to come together as a body and encourage one another. In Ephesians chapter 4 it talks about how we are joined together as a body and we are supposed to work together to encourage one another. We need people to hold us accountable to things and support us and us to support them and encourage them in return.

I've been reading Dietrich Bonhoeffer's "Life Together" for one of my classes and this one paragraph couldn't help but grab my attention (its a little long but bear with me-its worth it):

"But God has put this Word into the mouth of men in order that it may be communicated to other men. When one person is struck by the Word, he speaks it to others. God has willed that we should seek and find His living Word in the witness of a brother, in the mouth of a brother,in the mouth of a man. Therefore, the Christian needs another Christian who speaks God's Word to him. He needs him again and again when he becomes uncertain and discouraged, for by himself he cannot help himself without belying the truth. He needs his brother man as a bearer and proclaimer of the divine word of salvation. He needs his brother solely because of Jesus Christ. The Christ in his own heart is weaker than the Christ in the word of his brother; his own heart is uncertain, his brother's is sure." (Bonhoeffer 23).

I know that last part is kinda put funny but I think what Bonhoeffer is saying is how some have hearts that are more intune with God than others. Those whose hearts aren't as intune with God or centered on Him as others need the ones whose hearts are stronger and whose hearts are resting more on God to guide them and give them wisdom, to speak truth into their lives.

Keep in mind that no matter how strong you might feel you are in your faith or how much you have grown-you too need a mentor or someone to speak truth in your life, carry your burdens and need to be honest with fellow believers that you are close to about what you are going through.

We cannot take for granted the people God has placed in our lives. We cannot rely on our own hearts to help us through things because we cannot handle it alone. Some of our brothers/sisters are stronger than us in their faith and we are going to need their support, accountablitiy and wisdom to guide us in things and help us work through things. By the same token we might be the one that someone needs to support them, encourage them in their faith and hold them accountable. I'd highly suggest asking God if there is someone currently in your life that He wants you to invest in.

If you are struggling with something whether it be difficulty to focus on an assignment, having energy and time to get what you need to get done-done or a struggle or hurt that you have in your life-don't go at it alone. Admit to God that you need Him always and you cannot do it without Him.

If you are struggling with something deeper or just realize that you want someone to guide you and speak truth in your life-seek someone to hold you accountable to whatever you may be wrestling with and pick someone that you can be completely honest with and trust.

You aren't alone. God has placed people in your life to support you in whatever you are going through. Open up your heart to having a mentor or just being really honest with close friends on how you're doing and see what God does.
